The Season Calendar

Peak windows for every fishery we guide. Exact openers, closures and limits are set by WDFW each spring — we track them daily and match your dates to the strongest run. Today’s column is highlighted below.

Month by month

What bites when

Jan – Mar

Winter steelhead on the Skykomish and Snoqualmie — the chrome season. Lake trout begin stirring as water temps climb.

Steelhead gear

Apr – Jun

Lingcod opens in the Sound; halibut seasons in May–June; summer-run steelhead build; trout lakes fish excellent all spring.

Trout gear

Jul – Aug

Chinook and coho flood Puget Sound. Pinks arrive by the millions in odd years — the Skykomish becomes a pink highway.

Chinook gear

Sep – Nov

The big show: coho and kings push into the Snohomish system with the fall rains, then chum follow in force.

Coho gear

Dec

Chum wind down as the first winter steelhead show — quiet water, honest fish, and the start of our favorite season.

Year-round

Local trout lakes (Blackman, Flowing, Cassidy) and sea-run cutthroat rivers keep rods bent between the big runs.
